Five Winds' Laura Flanigan Speaks on the Importance of EPDs

Published by Paulette Fréchette on June 17, 2010

InterfaceFLOR, a worldwide leader in design, production and sales of environmentally-responsible modular carpet, produced the first third party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) in North America in April 2009. An EPD is a globally recognized tool used to communicate the environmental performance of a product or system and is based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data from studies conducted according to the ISO 14040 standard, stringent product-specific specifications and third party verification. Because of Five Winds International's extensive experience with LCAs, as well as the European EPD process, Interface asked Five Winds to conduct the rigorous third party verification process required by the ISO standards. In this video, Laura Flanigan, a consultant at Five Winds International, discusses how an EPD and third-party certification adds additional weight to product sustainability claims.
