Five Winds leads discussion with business leaders on water management challenges

The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is consistently recognized as one of the best business schools in the world according to the popular and financial press. Most people don't realize, however, that Wharton is also preparing its students to become leaders in sustainability.
Wharton's Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL) brings together a network of leading experts in relevant fields from around the world to discuss and research selected topics concerning business and the natural environment. Five Winds' Managing Director, Jim Fava, has regularly been called upon to share his thoughts with tomorrow's business leaders.
On December 14th, Jim Fava and Shaheen Kanchwala, also from Five Winds, led a discussion with business leaders, Wharton faculty and students on an emerging management issue that is sometimes referred to as "the next big environmental issue": water.
Workshop participants discussed the gaps that exist between existing information on water management and industry needs, identified the kinds of public policy changes that are needed to meet the coming challenges in water management, and identified priorities and opportunities for research that could be conducted or coordinated. The result was a draft research agenda proposal from which IGEL will push forward the thinking on this complex management issue.
